Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire

I read the news today, oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall

These are the lyrics from iconic song A day in the Life by the Beatles, which was indeed written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in 1967.

You would have thought since the legendary John Lennon highlighted the plight of the roads of Britain in 1967 the situation would be a lot better. Well, a recent survey suggests that Lancashire has a whopping number of…wait for it 67,493 potholes. (result from a Freedom of Information request by motoring experts Bull Plant driving school) This is equivalent to 4,405 miles in road length worth of potholes. This is only in Lancashire!

Whilst we understand that Local Authorities try to maintain, it would be of little comfort to those who may have suffered injury or loss coming into contact with a pothole.

Potholes cause damage to all road user but for cyclists it can be a lot more serious. Cyclists can suffer serious injuries as result of potholes and damage can be caused to the bike and other belongings.
